Monday, March 26 marks the 25th anniversary of groundbreaking and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC Architect Maya Lin’s 1982 design was considered controversial at the time. But today, the wall is generally considered a simple, moving memorial – the standard which other memorials often are judged. VOA’s Jeff Swicord talked about a number of veterans has recently gathered in Washington – and asked them what has become a memorial means to them. Vietnam War memorial has been called a poignant and meaningful monuments ever conceived. 25 years, the U.S. military veterans and visitors from around the world come here to Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington to remember and honor those who have lost their lives during the war. Veterans – such as Steve Ryan, Hospital Corpsman who served from 1968 to 1972. He visits the wall for the first time. “It is very touching. It is very moving and it’s sad, but it is a happy feeling and it gives me closure. Since I have been wondering what some of my colleagues went to Hospital Corpsman since 1968. And I see their names.” Not more than 58 200 names marked by a black granite wall. It is a place where veterans from around the United States can meet, remember and thank their fallen brothers. Some are looking for the names of their friends and family members in quiet reflection. Others, like Frank Strobl, trading stories with other veterans. He served as a helicopter pilot from 1969 to 1970. “It will strangle me every time
