Martin Odersky (born 5 September 1958) is a professor of programming methods at the EPFL. He specialises in code analysis and programming languages. He designed the Scala programming language and Generic Java. Scala is a new programming language which fuses object-oriented and functional programming while staying completely interoperable with Java. He was programme Chair of ECOOP 2004.
